Larry Brock, MP Brantford-Brant South-Six Nations is hiring for a part-time, with the potential for full-time, Constituency Assistant working in the Brantford office.

​

Reporting to the Member of Parliament, the Constituency Assistant provides, administrative and case work support services.  This position is key in helping to advance and facilitate the Member’s main objectives and priorities through outreach, communications, event planning and other strategic activities.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Acts as the first line of response with constituents and provides information and support, in person, over the telephone and in writing.

  • Provides various administrative services to the Member to ensure the flow of operations and to help the constituency office achieve its goals and priorities.

  • Drafts correspondence, and responses to constituent emails and letters.

  • Prepares congratulatory greetings.

  • Maintains databases.

  • Makes inquiries on behalf of constituents with matters pertaining to, IRCC, CRA, Service Canada, CPP and OAS, and provides support and problem resolution. Ensures cases are dealt with in a sensitive, confidential, and timely manner.

  • Assists with keeping the Member’s schedule up-to-date, which includes planning and coordinating meetings, and providing specific and pertinent information to the Member on all relevant matters.

  • Helps with special projects and events.

  • Availability outside regular work hours to attend events with the MP as needed.

  • Perform other related duties within the scope of the position.

 

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Superior organizational skills, attention to detail and problem-solving abilities

  • Good administrative skills and ability to multitask.

  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure, respond to short-term demands and adapt to new situations.

  • Exceptional judgment and interpersonal skills, and ability to exercise diplomacy when interacting with the public and stakeholders.

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills with an ability to write clearly and concisely.

  • Good grasp of the Canadian parliamentary system and federal political issues.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.

  • High degree of self-motivation to learn and take initiative.

 

Education and experience

  • Experience working in an office setting providing reception or administrative support.

  • Post-secondary education from a recognized institution or an acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience.
